Miss Juneteenth Nevada to host scholarship pageant on June 8

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — As Juneteenth approaches, the Miss Juneteenth Nevada Scholarship Program is set to host its annual pageant on June 8. The event aims to empower and uplift young Black women through personal growth, leadership development, and community involvement.

MarQue Munday, director of Miss Juneteenth Nevada, explained the program’s unique focus. “The Miss Juneteenth Nevada Scholarship Program is designed to empower, educate and uplift young Black women by providing opportunities for personal growth, leadership development and community involvement,” said Munday. “It’s rooted in the celebration of Juneteenth and Black excellence, with a focus on scholarship, service and sisterhood.”

Munday highlighted the pageant’s distinct approach compared to traditional pageants. “Unlike many traditional pageants, our program is grounded in cultural heritage and education. We’re not just crowning a beauty queen — we’re investing in the next generation of changemakers,” she said. Delegates participate in workshops, mentorship, community service, and public speaking preparation, all aimed at building confidence, pride, and purpose.

Attendees of this year’s event can expect an inspiring evening filled with talent performances, speeches, and a strong sense of community. “With Bubba Knight from Gladys Knight (Original Pip) and the Pips as our emcee, there’s also an exciting element of soul and legacy,” Munday added. “It’s a celebration of Black girl magic, culture and empowerment.”

Delegates Mia Fennell and Tayler Simpson shared their experiences in the program. “Honestly, the sisterhood,” they said. “Getting to know other amazing young women, sharing our stories and supporting each other throughout this journey has been incredible. I also loved the talent portion — it gave me the chance to express myself and expand my confidence across the board.”
